Today is the first day of Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) and I thought it best to start out by listing some notable CS educational events taking place this week.
The White House has released a new Fact Sheet celebrating a year of actions for CSforAll. Our CSforAll:Oregon Kickoff Event, next summer’s SuperQuest trainings and upcoming Computer Science Curriculum Handbook for Oregon were highlighted specifically in that release. Additionally, Ruthe Farmer (@RutheF) and Kumar Garg (@whitehouseostp) have written a companion blog post about how 2016 has been a year of action in support of the President’s Computer Science for All initiative and computer science education across the nation. I want to encourage all readers of this blog to check them out and share widely with your constituents and networks. If doing so via social media, please include the following tags: #csforall #csedweek, @whitehouse, @whitehouseOSTP, and @OregonCSTA.
CSforAll Teachers is sponsoring a Computer Science Education Week Photo Challenge 2016. They are asking CSEdWeek participants to post photos of their events to twitter using the hashtag #CSEdWeekPhotoChallenge2016. They will be awarding prizes each day of this week to random chosen pixs.
And finally, it’s not too late to schedule your own Hour of Code events As of 5:15pm PST today, there are 435 HOC events planned for Oregon out of 39836 in the US and 142,130 worldwide with more being added by the minute!
Well, that’s all I have to say about CS education for today, but stay tuned; I will continue to provide updates about CSEdWeek events and resources I am also still working on a post about how Career and Technical Education (CTE) is working to boost Oregon schools graduation rates and providing students a career pathway post-high school.
