Phil Rodin
In high school, I remember walking by a computer lab one day (yes, we had computers back then). I remember seeing things moving on the screen and students working on these devices. This looked really scary to me, so I made a conscious decision to NOT take any computer classes. I graduated from high school and went on to college. Intent on being a math teacher. I was told by my adviser that I needed to take an emphasis in Physics or Computers. I liked Physics, but couldn’t see taking that many college classes in Physics – so what the heck – I will try Computers. I got into a programming class – I quickly fell in love with the process of analyzing a problem, developing a solution, and then figuring out how to code it. I graduated from college and taught math at Sprague and Central for 18 years, finally getting chance to teach computer science. On a personal note – I have been married for 30 years – Have 4 amazing daughters (unbiased opinion) that have all pursued their passions in life.
